Key Responsibilities:
- Personal Care: Assist patients with activities of daily living, including bathing, dressing, grooming, and toileting.
- Mobility Support: Help patients with mobility and transfers, using assistive devices as needed.
- Medication Assistance: Administer medications as directed by a registered nurse or healthcare professional.
- Monitoring Vital Signs: Record and report vital signs and any significant changes in a patient’s condition.
- Companionship: Provide emotional support, engage in conversations, and offer companionship to patients to enhance their well-being.
- Nutrition Support: Assist with meal preparation, feeding, and ensuring patients receive proper nutrition and hydration.
- Hygiene and Infection Control: Maintain a clean and safe environment for patients, ensuring infection control protocols are followed.
- Documentation: Accurately document patient care activities and observations in the medical record.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Successful completion of a Health Care Aide training program or equivalent certification.
- Current certification or registration, as required by your location.
- Strong compassion, empathy, and a genuine desire to help others.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Physical fitness and the ability to assist with lifting and mobility tasks.
- Availability to work varying shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Tasks
- Supply and empty bed pans
- Serve meal trays and feed patients
- Deliver messages, reports, requisitions and specimens between departments
- Make beds and maintain patients’ rooms
- Maintain inventory of supplies
- Bathe, dress and groom patients
- Assist with the set-up and maintenance of traction equipment, cleaning or sterilizing equipment, maintaining and repairing equipment, and assembling, setting-up and operating job-related equipment
- Transport patients between care facilities
- Transport patients in wheelchair or stretcher
- Answer call signals
- Collect specimens
- Accompany patients on outside recreational activities and perform other duties related to patient care and comfort
