As a Journeyman Heavy-Duty Equipment Mechanic, you will be responsible for the maintenance, repair, and overhaul of heavy-duty equipment and machinery used in various industries such as construction, mining, agriculture, and transportation. You will utilize your expertise and experience to ensure that equipment operates efficiently, safely, and reliably.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Maintenance and Repair:
    • Perform routine maintenance tasks on heavy-duty equipment, including lubrication, adjustments, and inspections.
    • Diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical issues using specialized tools and equipment.
    • Repair or replace defective parts such as engines, transmissions, brakes, and electrical systems.
  2. Inspection and Diagnostics:
    • Conduct thorough inspections to identify potential issues and wear-and-tear on equipment.
    • Utilize diagnostic tools and equipment to troubleshoot and identify the root causes of malfunctions.
  3. Overhaul and Rebuilding:
    • Overhaul and rebuild major components of heavy-duty equipment such as engines, transmissions, and hydraulic systems.
    • Ensure all repairs and overhauls meet manufacturer specifications and industry standards.
  4. Documentation and Reporting:
    • Maintain accurate records of maintenance and repair work performed, including parts used and labor hours.
    • Prepare detailed reports on equipment condition and recommend actions for improving performance or preventing future issues.
  5. Safety and Compliance:
    • Adhere to safety regulations and protocols to ensure a safe working environment.
    • Follow industry standards and company policies for equipment maintenance and repair.
  6. Customer Service:
    • Communicate effectively with clients or supervisors regarding equipment issues, repair status, and recommendations.
    • Provide technical support and advice to operators and other team members.
  7. Tool and Equipment Maintenance:
    • Maintain and care for tools and equipment used in the repair and maintenance process.
    • Ensure tools and equipment are in good working condition and properly calibrated.

Tasks

  • Troubleshoot and inspect equipment to detect faults and malfunctions
  • Diagnose faults or malfunctions using computerized and other testing equipment to determine extent of repair required
  • Order parts and maintain inventory
  • Adjust equipment and repair or replace defective parts
  • Keep maintenance reports and documentation
  • Test repaired equipment for proper performance and to ensure that work meets manufacturers’ specifications
  • Clean, lubricate and perform other maintenance work
  • Perform repair work on heavy trucks
  • Perform other routine maintenance

Qualifications:

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent; technical or vocational training in heavy-duty equipment repair is preferred.

  • Certification: Journeyman status or equivalent certification in heavy-duty equipment repair is required.
